Did you know Melatonin (an antioxidant) has an impact on both mate and female fertility.
Within the brain lies the Pineal Gland - who's job it is to produce Melatonin. This hormone helps to:
Control the body's sleep/ wake patterns (circadian rhythms)
Regulate the body clock
Promote healthy eggs
Promote healthy sperm
Controls the release of reproductive hormones
Aids with implantation of the embryo
Acts as an antioxidant within the egg cell
Protect the sperm from oxidative stress
To much or to little can affect sex drive
To optimize Melatonin production and aid better sleep:
Sleep in a darkened room
Switch of TV's, Computers, Tablets, Mobile Phones
Get as much natural daylight
Have a regular sleep - wake schedule
Going to bed before midnight
Try blue blockers
Avoid drinking alcohol/caffeine 3 to 5 hours before bedtime
Go for a 15 minute walk in the mornings
All can lead to better sleep and frequent sex
Shift workers, such as:
Hospital workers
Security guards
Police officers
Female shift workers may experience a reduction in Melatonin leading to:
Longer menstrual cycles
Heavier menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia)
Painful periods (dysmenorrhoea)
Hormone imbalances
Early miscarriages
Male shift workers may experience a reduction in Melatonin leading to:
Lower sperm count
Decreased sperm motility
Poorer sperm morphology
Inflammation
Hormone imbalances
